Waterbury Connecticut Howard Johnson's trip 09-24-05
I went to the Waterbury Connecticut Howard Johnson's restaurant on the weekend of September 24th with my good friend Brian, his girlfriend Mary, and my Dad. I had a great time. The Waterbury restaurant is the last of the 5 remaining restaurants to have a full orange roof. The exterior still remains authentic as well. The inside however(save for the dairy bar, complete with the last Hojo mirror backdrop in existance), was completely remodeled to give it a "diner" type feel. The original layout was still apparent though. For food, I had the Macaroni and Cheese(which unfortunatly wasn't authentic, but they had the flavor down pretty good), and the cheeseburger(which was good. Reminded me of Burger King a little bit..hehe). The only authentic food item Waterbury serves is the clam strips(which I cannot have. Learned that the hard way at the Springfield Vermont Hojos..hehe). Also, Waterbury still has authentic ice cream! I had a scoop of Peppermint Stick, and Chocolate Chip. They also had an old postcard of the Bangor Maine location in its prime! All in all, I had a good time, and hopefully I can go back again sometime.
